Death as a friend
Age period:  72 to 84 or older, till death.

During this period, many of us gradually withdraw from active social roles, while others remain actively involved until the last day of their lives. We confront the inexorably approaching spectre of death during this stage of life. If we are fortunate, it approaches us like a friend. We are aided by the experience of having undergone psychic deaths so many times that we are, in the favourable sense of the term, living dead.

Loved ones depart, and bodily functions decline. The loss of a life partner is a profound trial. However, it is also a time of grateful relinquishment and slow dissolution toward the light. Step by step, we bid farewell to possessions, finding solace if we can be of service to others with them.

In Bitcoin-Leadership this represents the pinnacle of our biographical age. It signifies that at this stage, we ensure the distribution of our stored Bitcoins or allow them to expire with us, thereby contributing to the Bitcoin community (as lost coins increase the value of the remaining ones). We can prepare for advanced age as part of cultivating a low time preference. It embodies what the Stoics refer to as “Memento mori” — remembering to die (contemplating our mortality).
