Level 5 – E. Identity
Complex ambivalences
Dialogical self
On this level of consciousness, we experience our identity as an inner conversation full of complex ambivalences. This is referred to as the dialogical, polyphonic self: ‘I am the owner of a collection of roles and habits that I take on with varying conviction and freedom. I have influence on the expression of the roles, and at the same time, I do not. I have a unique contribution in this world, and yet, I am replaceable. My identity is simultaneously personal and impersonal. ‘I participate in an infinite series of games.’
Key Questions
• What is my truth within a given context?
• What roles do I play in the broader sense?
• How does the ‘zeitgeist’ affect my personality?
• What does my multigenerational system look like?
• What do I want to leave behind for future generations?
• How do I steer my own destiny and that of society?
• What is my vision for my own life and for the world?
In Bitcoin-Leadership this involves navigating the complex relationship between anonymity and uniqueness. We must manage a multitude of similarly valuable and often opposing truths about ourselves and what we aim to achieve in the world. It’s akin to the paradox that on one level, Bitcoin has already emerged victorious, yet on another level, every participant is significant. Bitcoin leadership entails making choices about the level of anonymity and leveraging one’s knowledge, character, and charisma without being attached to fame and fortune.
