Level 5 – B. Space and time preference
Space: Organisations, generations, cultures
Time span: 5 to 50 years
The time frame encompassed at this level spans from five to fifty years. Professionally, we navigate vast organisations, systems, networks, and cultural nuances, gaining insight into the lineage of world history and development across generations. We strategically position ourselves, considering our own ageing process, emerging technologies, and evolving societal values.
However, fixation on the complexity of systems can lead us astray. We may become engrossed in high-stakes projects and intricate organisational changes that fail to align with societal and global demands. Without transitioning to the next level of Simplexity, we risk getting bogged down in convoluted constructs that lack relevance. This derailment can occur if our moral development lags behind our skill acquisition.
In Bitcoin-Leadership this entails the ability to design systems with a useful lifespan of at least five to ten years, preferably longer. An exemplary instance of this foresight is Adam Back’s proactive development of the Liquid System to complement the functionality of the Lightning layer. Adam Back’s success with Liquid required a deep understanding of the complexities of Bitcoin and Lightning, as well as the foresight to initiate work on Liquid five years prior to its widespread adoption.
