Level 4 – F. Moral development

Mature conventional
Balance between small and larger self-interest

We gradually realise that “good” is what benefits the largest possible community.
We develop the ability to perceive the entire community in terms of relationships, including empathising with opposing viewpoints. We adhere to and uphold the law because it contributes to the functioning of our community within the broader society.
In social interactions, we increasingly learn to address conflicts in a compassionate manner and become capable of depolarising or even reversing positions. We strive to strike a balance between individual and collective interests and can empathise with both perpetrators and offenders. Through enhanced compassion, we reduce our identification with personal traits and history. This entails approaching our own identity and morality with a greater degree of detachment from innate or learned characteristics. Consequently, our morality begins to transcend local laws.

In Bitcoin-Leadership this represents the moral standpoint of adhering to prevailing laws. It encompasses the aspect of community building within the Bitcoin development sphere. It may involve relocating to a different jurisdiction or actively engaging in politics to advocate for changes to laws deemed unjust.
