Midlife
From specialist to generalist
Age period: 36 to 48 years.
In a professional context, this period marks the transition from specialised roles to embracing a more generalised role aimed at facilitating the growth of others. We shift from relying on hard skills to emphasising soft skills, and from focusing on operational tasks to tactical and strategic considerations.
In our personal lives, we come to realise the necessity of continuously reinventing long-term relationships. The collective interest increasingly supersedes individual interests as we progress from the initial phase of building a life together (the second marriage) to the consolidation phase (the so-called third marriage, ideally with the same partner), signifying a deeper commitment to the enduring enterprise of the relationship.
As parents, we recognise the importance of effectively guiding adolescent children into adulthood, preparing them for a future where they will no longer rely on us. This involves adopting a more coaching-oriented parenting approach, which includes navigating and understanding the unique (sub)culture of adolescents.
In our social interactions, we invest more time and energy into community building. The notion of the smaller self begins to recede as a larger sense of Self gradually emerges. This shift enables us to experience humanity separate from our personal biographies, fostering a greater sense of neutrality and compassion.
In Bitcoin-Leadership this stage allows us to sustain multi-year, and potentially multi-generational, relationships. Our time horizon now encompasses the needs of families and communities over a period of five years. For those without children, there is greater opportunity to channel energy into community-building initiatives such as Bitcoin Beach, Bitcoin Jungle, or other pioneering endeavours within the network state.
