Level 2 – G. Religious Experience

Libido-laden worship
The God of the tribe

The libido directs and reinforces the religious experience. Even in more profane contexts, images, idols, memes and rituals can take on religious intensity (e.g. in the form of a fan club, haka or group yell). This is then the ecstatic side of religious experience. The adolescent may have deeply religious experiences during dance parties, aided or not by hallucinogens. Sexual or meditative experiments can now unlock energies that can only be fully processed after a long maturation.

At this level, we often see that, based on the aggressive charge, God is perceived as punitive. So does karma, as ‘you have brought this upon yourself’. The danger is that this high energetic charge is mobilised by religious or political leaders to gain power. God then becomes the God of the tribe. Incidentally, the same rebellious energy can also prompt one to punish God by denying that ‘He’ exists. Atheism at this level is often motivated by arguments like “How can a God allow all this injustice and suffering to exist!” This is the more desperate, indignant side of the religious experience.

In Bitcoin-Leadership this is the cult-like enchantment that Bitcoin can cause. It is a relatively young experience, but it has huge ramifications. It can be a form of epiphany when you suddenly understand what money is and how central bankers have been deluding the public. This insight can have a religious quality and if you stay on this level too long, you will be part of a cult instead of a movement. At the same time it is important not to throw the baby out with the bathwater. After all, there is a lot of magic and mythology in Bitcoin. This entering of the rabbit hole can truly enrich your life.
