Level 2 – D. Mindset
Counterdependent
Sympathy/Antipathy
In the process of individuation, the adolescent comes to resist educators: counter-dependency arises. Indeed, because it is resistance, there is still dependency. The mind is strongly sensation-oriented, dichotomous and lust-driven: something is fascinating or not at all, hot or cool, people are likeable or dislikeable.
There are strong changes in body and mind:
In self-image: (un)attractiveness of the body
In (un)certainty about mental abilities
In preferences and disgusts
In energy level
In sexual orientation
In moods (‘Himmelhoch jauchzend, zum Tode betrübt’)
In feeling part of something: you either belong or you don’t
The closer to adulthood, the more the adolescent’s raw and impulsive emotions are internalised and refined into the adolescent’s manageable and more functional feelings.
In Bitcoin-Leadership this is the energy that we can invoke to resist the old system. It is this counterdependent rebelling against the incumbents that will eventually have to be transformed into a more independent or interdependent fighting for justice and freedom. The danger of staying on this level too long, is that you miss the opportunity to actually start building.
