Level 1 – F. Moral development
Pre-conventional
Unequivocal good or bad, Room for generosity
Simplicity is the level of spontaneous virtues and, above all, a primitive, preconventional morality: the child follows rules mainly out of fear of punishment or a need for reward. At the same time, many children can at times demonstrate very pure forms of higher moral awareness.
The child needs clarity and thinks in simple terms of good or bad, and permission or prohibition. The conscience is mainly shaped by reactions from the environment.
Socially desirable behaviour is a high priority here. Fear of love loss, guilt and shame feelings drive morality. In a slightly later variation, doing good is driven by the question: what’s in it for me? At the same time, the better children are treated (neither neglected nor spoiled), the more easily they can be stably generous and compassionate themselves.
In Bitcoin-Leadership this is the most basic form of morality connected to the longing to be accepted. It is the high time preference of wanting to be part of a group and to have enough money for basic needs and security. It is a paradoxical tension that when people who mainly function on this level, go to Bitcoin meetups, they will be stimulated to transition to lower time preference and higher levels of morality. It is important to remind ourselves that we all function on different levels at the same time. A part of us is longing for safety and security and another part of us strives towards societal transformation.
